With my previously mentioned Old Bitch status there are things that I have come to love and require just on general principle. For instance, when I was in college and I would roll with my Sorority Sisters on a road trip, it was perfectly acceptable for us to stay in a 1-star shit hole, 6 to a room. My 36 year-old self shudders at the thought.
Sorry but hell no. Now I require a bed and none of that aero bed shit either. The hotel needs to be 3-stars minimum & if the service is anything but stellar, verbal mollywhopping will commence. As a part of my older & wiser steez I've also come to know the joys of high thread count sheets. There is nothing better than sliding between some 400 to 600 thread count sheets. Especially if they're fresh from the laundrymat & warm from the dryer. Mmmm! It's like sleeping in lotion like Aziz Ansari says.
Another necessary luxury for me is getting my nails done at a legit, non-hoodratcentric nail salon. When I was 19 & rocking obscenely long acrylic nails, going to the hood chop shop for their $15 fill-ins (with free design of course) was the move. The inevitable nail fungus was also free. I'm not even trying to hear that foolery now. I'm about a clean, mellow, spa-like experience now. No broads on their cells cussin out their baby daddies, no yowling kids running through the salon, no cattle call atmosphere. Just bliss.
Same shit goes for the hair salon. When I was younger I remember going up to Harlem to get my hair done at Black Hair Is. It was THE SPOT back in the day to get your 'do done. It was the only place I know of that actually made you wait longer if you made an appointment. When I say wait, I mean like 5 hours minimum. It would be you and 6 or 7 broads ahead of you waiting for a wash 'n blow. And I would sit patiently too. Of course this was after a trip to the McD's on 125th first or there would have been a situation.
Now? Hells the fuck no! I will happily pay rich people's duckets to guarantee that when I roll up for my 2 pm appointment (15 mins early of course) that my ass is going directly to the sink to get washed and then promptly to the chair to be styled. None of this broads eating Church's Fried Chicken at the styling station shit for me. And no hustleman coming through with bootleg DVDs either. I'm paying for prompt service and peace of mind. My ass is too grown for the dumb shit.
I have a litany of other grown woman requirements but I think I hit the main necessities. What are your grown person non-negotiables? Let a broad know.
Later.....
