Weekend Recap

Dude! I had the best weekend!

Friday: I get off the plantation early (yay summer hours!) and get a much needed manicure. The one I got when I was in West Palm had my nails looking like hot ass, so I happily ran to Acqua Beauty Bar to get my digits looking right again. Then I hooked with my work homie JenniB for the TWoP Recap-pades at Galopagos Arts Space in Williamsburg. Can I tell you how much fun it was! First off, much like I predicted I was pretty much the sole Black person there. No worries, because we were all one nation under a tv-loving groove. My favorite recappers were there reading from their greatest hits recaps and it was all good.

Me and JenniB got toasted and laughed our arses off. Then I was like yo let's go back to the crib, so we got some wine and a cab to the crib and she got to see my humble abode and meet the Zeenman. JenniB's a pioneer since she's the first person from work to see my crib. High-five to that! Anyhoo, we got our wine drink on and chatted about just about everything until the wee hours. Fun was had by all.

Saturday: The Zeenman was off from work (hurrah!) so I said let's go get pedicured (that's right, pedicured - my man takes care of himself) and then hit the Basquiat exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. So we hit Bloomie's Nails to get our maintenance on and Zeen hates the open cattle call look since he's used to the private rooms at the spot he normally goes too, but whatever. I undo the craptacularness of the pedi that I got in West Palm Beach and wait for the Zeenman to finish his mani & pedi. We hit the Gap to look for outfits to wear to the AKA's Pink Ice event. I find a hot dress on sale and the Zeenman finds a nice shirt in a great color. We hit BBQ's for some horrible eating and ginormous rotgut booze and then on to BK to hit the museum. Everyone had the same idea apparently since it was:

1. First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum when admission is free
2. The last day of the Basquiat exhibit

Hence, it meant a 1 hour wait just to get on the elevator to go to the floor the exhibit was on. But wait there's more! After you finally get on the elevator with the other cattle you get off and there's another line! After an hour's wait on that line, you finally get to the exhibit and It's so serious! You didn't really get to appreciate everything and take time with them because there were so many people herded in at once. I couldn't help but think the whole time that I was there that Basquiat was pulling a fast one on the art world. Not that his stuff wasn't good, but you can see how he was like putting his shit out on canvas and I kept feeling like he probably was like ok, here's some backward Rs and I'll throw some paint here and here and voila you snooty art bitches will think I was a genius! Now bow to my brilliance!

There were pieces that I connected with and others where I was like WTF?! All in all it was cool to actually get some culture on in a city that's famous for it for once. So after our 3 hr marathon museum visit we headed home for some R & R before hitting the AKA's Pink Ice event. Which was a ball as always.

Sunday: Got together with two of my Sorors TW and LALA to politic about their assistance with my wedding plans. Chowed down at Debs and converted them to the fabulousness of the food there. Then we went to the UES where TW lives and got our chill on til she had to work. We hit her bartending gig at Merchants and proceeded to get super lushed up on her fabulous cocktails. We stayed til 1 am chatting with the regulars. I met George Benson's son and Lauryn Hill's makeup artist. Nice huh? So needless to say a sickation was in order so that's exactly what I did.

Monday: LALA and I hooked up for some stealth movie watching or sneaking in the flicks. We paid for Mad Hot Ballroom and stealth watched Cinderella Man. Both were excellent! A stealth sickation time was had by all.

Which brings me to today where I'm back on the grind. FLEF! I should be outside lounging in the sun (BIG UP Mother Nature! Way to go girl!) but alas, I'm not ballin like that so my arse is in a cute, summery outfit in the air conditioned confines of the cube farm. Which isn't all bad I suppose since I packed in a lot of good shit in my 3 days.

Off to the grind.

Later...................
